U.S. Postal Service (USPS) that could impact how property tax payments are processed.

The Town of Delton is alerting residents of a recent change by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) that could impact how property tax payments are processed.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR), State and Local Finance Division notified the Town of Delton on December 18th that USPS now applies postmarks at regional sorting centers instead of local post offices, a change that took effect in August.

This could delay when a postmark appears on mailed items.

Town of Delton recommends mailing payments earlier than usual to avoid potential issues. If a payment is sent close to the deadline, residents are advised to visit a U.S. Post Office and request a hand-stamped postmark. A missing or late postmark could result in interest and penalties.

Town also cautions against using personal bank online bill pay services for property tax payments. As these payments are often mailed in bulk and may arrive late, potentially making them delinquent.
